Cassandra was a Princess of Troy in Homer’s Odyssey. She was granted the gift of prophecy by the God Apollo. When she refused him, he cursed her to always be disbelieved, in spite of the truth of her words. This curse became a source of great suffering and frustration. She was seen as a liar and madwoman by her family and the Trojan people, to their own ruin. Cassandra foresaw the destruction of Troy, but could not prevent it. Nobody listened.
We all at times endure the Caz Complex; feel interrupted, silenced and ignored. Don’t give up on the power of your voice. Be kind, be generous, be modest, keep perspective but do not keep quiet. And this is my only motivational quote, because those are a source of great suffering and frustration.
“Lend me ten thousand eyes,
and I will fill them with prophetic tears”
-Shakespeare
